StaySafe™ Oropharyngeal Airway

is an adjunct extending from the lips to the pharynx that is specially designed for preventing the tongue from occluding the airway of unconscious patients. In addition, it prevents glossoptosis, the downward displacement or retraction of the tongue due to muscle relaxation during deep unconsciousness, which may obstruct the airway, and increase the danger of suffocation.

Why should I use StaySafe™ orpoharyngeal airways?
There are a number of reasons to use StaySafe™ oropharyngeal airways. They effectively lift tongue and epiglottis away from the back of the throat, preventing suffocation in unconscious patients. Additionally, they prevent patients from biting their tongues or the fingers of a clinician.
Are StaySafe™ oropharyngeal airways re-usable?
No, this product is sterilized and for single use only. You should discard it after single use. It should be used immediately after opening the package and disposed of immediately after use. Avoid using the product if there are signs that its packaging was tampered with, and never use the products after expiry date.
How should I use StaySafe™ oropharyngeal airway?
When using StaySafe™ oropharyngeal airway identify the correct oropharyngeal airway by measuring from the center of the patient’s incisors/mouth to the angle of the jaw. Then, ensure the patient is in a supine position and that you (clinician) are at the top of their head. This allows you the best view of their airway. Continue by holding the oropharyngeal airway by the flange and ensure that the curve is pointed up toward the roof of the patient’s mouth. Insert the oropharyngeal airway into the mouth, and rotate 180° as it successfully passes the hard palate. Continue the insertion procedure until the flange rests against the patient’s lips and the colored bite block is positioned in between the patient’s teeth.
In what kind of sizes are StaySafe™ oropharyngeal airways available?
StaySafe™ oropharyngeal airways are available in sizes from 40mm to 120mm. To better separate the sizes they each size is marked with a different color. For example, size 000 (40cm) is marked with pink, while size 6 (120mm) is marked with orange.
